Mirzapur The Movie box office Day 1: Pankaj Tripathi film surpasses Awarapan 2, earns Rs 30 cr

Mirzapur The Movie, a film adaptation of the popular web series, made a strong debut at the box office on Day 1, grossing Rs 24.75 crore net in India, according to Sacnilk industry tracker. This marks one of Bollywood's most significant non-star-led openings. Across 11,135 showings, the gangster thriller drama grossed a total of Rs 29.70 crore.

While some experts had predicted an opening between Rs 18-20 crore, the movie has exceeded expectations. Fans and critics have praised the movie for its powerful performances and broad appeal. Theaters reported a steady increase in occupancy throughout the day, with a final occupancy rate of 42.81%. The Delhi NCR region had the highest theatre occupancy at 54.3% in 1,249 shows, while Mumbai reached 30.8% in 818 shows.

The Telugu language version garnered an overall occupancy of 24.05%. This impressive opening has surpassed recent sleeper hits like Saiyaara (Rs 22 crore) and Awarapan 2 (Rs 21.5 crore), and is currently competing with other popular releases such as Vishal Chaturvedi's Hanuman Ansh and Yash's Toxic. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur The Movie stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu, among others.

The film, produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, was released on September 4 in Hindi and Telugu. The original Mirzapur web series on Amazon Prime Video has been a massive hit, becoming one of India's most beloved streaming shows with three seasons and a fourth in development.
