MFA denies understaffing at Kenya’s Rabat mission, says embassy is fully staffed

Nairobi, Kenya - The Foreign Ministry has refuted claims that Kenya's embassy in Rabat, Morocco is understaffed and facing operational difficulties, asserting the mission is "fully" equipped to support Kenya's growing strategic ties with Morocco and North Africa. Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei refuted concerns over capacity, highlighting a surge in bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Morocco over the past two years, including 11 signed agreements.

The ministry maintains the mission is adequately staffed, complete with a clerk, foreign relations officer, and defense attaché, despite a parliamentary report citing vacancies and financial issues. The report, by the National Assembly's Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee, also noted a lack of a dedicated translator, given Morocco's primary languages are Arabic and French.

However, Sing’Oei argued the rapid growth of diplomatic relations, from the signing of agreements to high-level visits, attests to the mission's efficacy. The mission, operational since mid-2024, is currently exploring enhanced aviation cooperation and the resumption of direct flights between the two capitals.
