Mensah throws 5 TD passes, Toney sets record in No. 7 Miami’s 45-6 win over Stanford

Darian Mensah made five touchdown passes during his first game as a Miami Hurricane, while Malachi Toney set a school record with 234 receiving yards. The seventh-ranked Hurricanes defeated Stanford 45-6 in a thrilling Friday night contest. Mensah and Toney both connected on touchdown passes during the opening drives of the game for Miami.

Eddie Brown had 220 receiving yards in 1984 against Boston College, known as the "Hail Flutie" game. Mensah showcased his talent on his first snap of the game, throwing a 48-yard pass to Toney that set the tone for the Hurricanes' victory. Mensah capped that drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Toney and added another touchdown pass to Daylyn Upshaw in the second quarter.

He finished the game with 27 completions out of 30 attempts for 401 yards, setting records for the most yards and touchdowns in a debut for Miami. Toney, who had 109 catches for 1,211 yards as a freshman, joined Mensah and led all power conference quarterbacks with 3,973 yards passing last season.
