Martinez scores late winner as Inter Milan rally to beat Napoli

Reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan staged a stunning comeback to defeat last year’s runners-up Napoli in an impressive victory. Lautaro Martinez scored twice for Inter, including a last-minute winner, while Marcus Thuram netted the opening goal with a header.

Napoli took the lead in the 50th minute, with Matteo Politano putting the ball into the bottom corner after initial attempts were blocked. Three minutes later, Giovanni Di Lorenzo assisted Rasmus Hojlund, who scored his second goal in two league matches. The Frenchman had come on as a substitute at halftime and proved crucial in Inter's comeback.

Inter responded swiftly, leveling the score just three minutes after Hojlund's strike, with Federico Dimarco converting an over-hit cross from close range. The French striker nearly equalized again when he struck the post, but Napoli's John Stones did not get on the pitch until the final minutes. Djed Spence, another summer signing from England, was also absent due to a fitness issue.

Inter's win marked their third consecutive home victory in Serie A, after unbeaten starts since November 2025. Napoli, who finished last season 11 points behind Inter, suffered their second back-to-back defeat after a home loss to Como last weekend.
