Keralam CM, Cabinet to skip press interaction at IIM Kozhikode citing tight schedule, security

Kerala's Chief Minister, V.D. Satheesan, and his Cabinet members will not engage in press interactions or photography opportunities following the completion of a two-day leadership workshop at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) on Saturday. This decision was made due to tight schedules and security concerns, following recent tensions between the Chief Minister and the state's journalists regarding media access.

The disagreement intensified after the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) criticized the practice of targeting specific media outlets during press interactions, deeming such actions as inappropriate in a democratic setting. The IIMK organizers explained that Satheesan and his Cabinet colleagues have an exceptionally congested schedule immediately after the completion of the 'Reimagining Keralam' programme, which commenced on Friday morning.

Consequently, no press conference, photo call, or media interaction will be held at the venue. Moreover, access to the IIMK campus is strictly limited, in accordance with instructions from the State Protocol authorities and the Chief Minister’s Office.

Despite these restrictions, the institute's public relations team will provide official photographs, video footage, and press releases through designated media channels. They have also expressed their appreciation to journalists and news organizations for their understanding and cooperation in regards to the security measures and protocol requirements in place.
