Keelon Russell shows off dual-threat ability as No. 13 Alabama handles East Carolina 48-10

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Keelon Russell contributed 335 yards and a touchdown, as No. 13 Alabama delivered a 48-10 opening-day win over East Carolina on Saturday. The freshman, who started his first career game after outperforming Austin Mack during training camp, rushed for 86 yards and a score while passing for 249 yards, including 130 to Ryan Coleman-Williams.

Russell orchestrated five straight scoring drives to kick off the contest, and the Crimson Tide finished with 480 yards and 27 first downs. East Carolina (0-1) managed just 162 yards and five first downs, gaining only 2 yards on 22 carries. Despite a fumble in the third quarter, Russell's performance overshadowed any errors, with his 58-yard connection to Coleman-Williams standing out.

East Carolina's lone touchdown came after a 66-yard gain by Tyler Johnson to the Alabama 1, followed by a score from Jeremiah Melvin. Alabama, ranked 15th in the SEC in rushing last season, amassed 227 yards on the ground. East Carolina's Mitch Griffis completed 10 of 16 passes for 137 yards, including a touchdown and an interception.
