Kano APC receives new defectors

Rufai Sani Hanga, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, and Masud El-Jibrin Doguwa, former senators from Kano State, have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a significant defection ahead of the 2027 elections. This move is part of a larger trend of opposition politicians joining the ruling party, following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's recent political shift.

The trio, along with 136,038 other defectors, participated in the unveiling of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign groups in Kano. Other notable defectors include the Kano State Deputy Chairman of the NDC, Ali Datti Yako, and members of the party’s state executive committee. Additionally, former Ungogo Local Government Chairman, Badaru Umar, as well as members of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna’s political group, have also defected.

Notable figures such as former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Isyaku Ali Danja, former PDP deputy governorship candidate Yusuf Bello Danbatta, and former Special Adviser to the President, Senator Baraka Sani, have all joined the APC. The NNPP chairman of the “Book Faction”, Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya, and former NNPP senatorial candidate, Abdulmajid Dauda Dandawaki, have also made the move.

This wave of defections includes politicians from various levels of government and political parties, indicating a significant realignment of political allegiances in Kano ahead of the upcoming elections.
