Jeremiah Smith flashes Heisman pose in Ohio State’s warmup for showdown with Texas

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Jeremiah Smith has expressed that to clinch the Heisman Trophy, he'll require a season reminiscent of Alabama's DeVonta Smith's 2020 campaign. On Saturday, Smith began advocating for this title, mirroring one of Smith's achievements. During Ohio State's dominant 56-3 win over Ball State, Smith collected eight receptions for 151 yards and struck a Heisman pose following his second touchdown.

This marked the third time since 2015 that a Power Four conference's receiver had at least two games with 150 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a single half, achieved by DeVonta Smith and LSU's Ja’Marr Chase. "It was a good start. We came out playing fast as an offense; the defense made stops," stated Smith. "The first drive, we didn't come out how we wanted to.

Smith did not participate in the second half, with the upcoming game against fifth-ranked Texas. Coach Ryan Day mentioned that Smith's presence was highly valued by offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and the staff as they prepared for the Texas matchup.

Smith showcased numerous impressive plays and film for Texas to analyze during the first and second quarters. His opening catch was a 48-yard touchdown up the right sideline, putting Ohio State ahead 7-0. Smith beat safety Sterling Smith on a play-action pass by Sayin, securing the catch with one-handed, over-the-shoulder effort in the end zone.

Smith's second touchdown echoed the kind that leaves NFL scouts and coaches stunned and warranted the Heisman pose. While being covered, he snagged a 3-yard pass in the back of the end zone, both feet firmly in. Five receptions for 74 yards on that drive gave Ohio State a 35-3 advantage at halftime, highlighting the improving chemistry between Smith and Sayin.
