Arch Manning throws four TD passes and No. 5 Texas eases past Texas State in season opener 59-7

Arch Manning delivered a stellar performance, connecting for 305 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Cam Coleman. The No. 5 Texas Longhorns commenced their season with a dominant 59-7 victory over Texas State on Saturday. Manning's accuracy led to a early 28-0 halftime lead, bolstered by a 59-yard fumble return touchdown by Graceson Littleton.

Coleman, who transferred from Auburn prior to joining Texas, showcased his skills with three catches for 70 yards in his debut. Raleek Brown, formerly of Arizona State, also scored twice. Manning exited the game in the third quarter with Texas leading 42-7. Texas will take on No. 1 Ohio State in their next matchup next week, a rivalry steeped in recent history.

Ohio State defeated Texas in the 2024 College Football Playoff semifinals and again in their season opener from 2025. Texas State, now part of the rebuilt Pac-12 after 13 years in the Sun Belt, entered the game with quarterback Brad Jackson, who threw for 150 yards and ran for 27, but was largely contained by Texas' defense. Texas' new defensive coordinator, Will Muschamp, returned to Texas after stints at Florida and South Carolina, where he served as defensive coordinator and led the team to a national championship loss in 2009.
