Israeli man faces deportation after threats on Koh Samui

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered the deportation of Israeli national Yaacov Ohayon from Thailand following his conviction for threatening another individual. The order was issued on September 5th, stating that Ohayon had sent threatening messages warning the victim of potential harm. In Koh Samui, the Provincial Court found Ohayon guilty under Section 392 of Thailand's Criminal Code, which deals with causing fear or alarm to another person through threats.

Initially sentenced to one month in prison and a 10,000-baht fine, Ohayon received a reduced sentence of 15 days in prison and a 5,000-baht fine after pleading guilty. The prison sentence was suspended for two years. The Interior Ministry deemed Ohayon's actions contrary to public order, good morals, or public welfare, thus qualifying him for deportation under Section 5 of the 1956 Deportation Act.

Anutin ordered Ohayon's departure from the country under the act and a 2026 regulation governing deportation. Ohayon has seven days from notification to appeal the decision to the prime minister, allowing him to request the order's revocation or an order permitting his departure from Thailand.
