Hadi claims Pas leaders were offered foreign help to topple government

KOTA BARU: Former Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang alleged that a representative from the US Embassy inquired about the party's preferred candidate for prime minister during a meeting at the US Embassy in Malaysia. The conversation occurred when Pas was part of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, coinciding with US President Barack Obama's visit to Malaysia.

Hadi claimed that the question was posed after Takiyuddin Hassan and Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, two senior Pas leaders, met with the US ambassador. Hadi, during his closing remarks at the 72nd Pas Annual Muktamar, recounted that he responded to the US ambassador's inquiry by asking who America supported. He stated that Mahathir Mohamad was mentioned and received a positive response from the embassy officials.

Hadi also alleged that during the meeting, Takiyuddin and Samsuri were informed of the possibility of toppling the government and assuming administration, with the US expressing willingness to assist. However, Takiyuddin later confirmed to reporters that the US embassy representative had indeed asked about Pas's plans to bring down the Barisan Nasional government, but did not provide details on the meeting's contents as claimed by Hadi.

Takiyuddin emphasized that Pas does not seek foreign intervention in Malaysia's political affairs, stressing the importance of resolving domestic divisions and carrying out their duties.
