Ex-Edo Rep Charges EFCC to Reopen Atiku’s Case, Gives 14-Day Ultimatum

Former House of Representatives member Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to either reopen the investigation into former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's alleged corruption or face legal action. This demand comes after Atiku dismissed the call, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to allow the disclosure of his alleged involvement in hard drugs dealings.

Agbonayinma cites a 2006 report by the EFCC and the United States Senate Permanent Sub-committee on Investigations, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, both of which found serious allegations of corrupt practices involving Atiku. The former Edo Rep argues that the EFCC's failure to prosecute Atiku since the 2006 report has caused significant embarrassment to Nigeria and demonstrates the agency's unwillingness to fight corruption in high places.

Atiku dismisses Agbonayinma's request, stating that the renewed allegations are merely a diversion from the current administration's alleged economic failures. He argues that his opponents are running out of answers to issues such as rising prices and insecurity. Atiku reiterates his challenge for anyone with credible evidence against him to come forward and prove his guilt in court.
