El Gobierno toma el control del Puerto de Ceuta para alojar a migrantes

The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has taken control of the Ceuta port and authorized the installation of temporary tents to accommodate over 1,000 migrants in the Poniente quay area. According to sources from the Ministry of Transport, the order, issued under Article 73.3 of the State Ports and Merchant Marine Law, grants authorization to install carpas on a 16,000 square meter public port domain.

The decision comes after the Ceuta Port Authority Board, controlled by the city of Ceuta, voted against the installation of such tents as requested by the Secretariat of State for Migration. The request aimed at temporarily installing the necessary equipment for the functions legally assigned to the General Directorate of Humanitarian Attention and the International Protection Reception System.

The order also indicates that the occupation will involve the provisional installation of tents and other spaces for rest, nursing, dispensary, social assistance and intervention areas, sanitary offices, staff offices for the entity providing the service, and a booth for security services. Due to the exceptional situation in Ceuta, the department led by Transport Minister �scar Puente has taken control and decided to respond to the request of the Secretariat of State for Migration, authorizing the use of a part of the port service area already open to the city.
