Drones Take Flight Over Bhopal’s Bhoj Wetland To Redraw Boundaries After NGT Direction

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a drone survey to accurately determine the boundaries of the Bhoj Wetland, including the Upper Lake, following directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Under the supervision of Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB), a team of experts utilized drones to capture aerial photographs and videos of the lake and surrounding areas.

The MPPCB officials obtained air traffic control permissions before initiating the drone flights on Saturday at designated locations such as Bhadbhada Dam, Sair Sapata, and Mugaliya Chhap. The survey team faced a delay in the early hours due to the arrival of team members and experts, but resumed operations at 11.30 am. The first flight was conducted near Bhadbhada Dam, followed by documentation from Sair Sapata and Mugaliya Chhap.

The team is compiling the aerial data to establish a comprehensive picture of the wetland's current boundaries by comparing it with existing records and previous demarcations. The survey coincided with changes in the operation of Bhadbhada Dam gates, with Gate No. 9 being opened at 1.15 pm on Saturday. However, the survey was halted at 3.30 pm due to rain and adverse weather conditions, and it is expected to resume on Sunday if the weather permits.

The entire exercise is anticipated to take about 15 days, after which the findings will be used to accurately determine the boundaries of the wetland and guide further action.
