Complaint against Jantar Mantar protester over 'insulting' post on Hindu gods

The Supreme Court lawyer Amita Sachdeva has lodged a formal complaint with the cyber police in New Delhi against a young activist involved in the Jantar Mantar protest and her father, Sanjay Azad. The complainant claims that the minor's social media posts, accessible on X (previously Twitter), contained offensive remarks about Hindu gods and goddesses, including Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna, Goddess Saraswati, and Goddess Durga.

In a statement to ANI, Sachdeva expressed that as a practicing Hindu, she found these posts deeply disturbing and offensive to fellow Hindus.The lawyer has requested the registration of an FIR under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, to address the matter.

The complaint alleges that these posts were intentionally and maliciously crafted to offend Hindu sentiments. Sachdeva mentioned that she had previously requested the removal of these posts, but they remained online.Sachdeva has also called for the preservation of the posts, related media, and platform records, including IP logs and device details, as well as measures to prevent the further spread of the objectionable content.

This complaint is separate from an assault case involving the minor's father, who accused self-proclaimed influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj of physical abuse during a protest at Jantar Mantar in July. Bhardwaj denies the allegations, claiming the incident was self-defense. Bhardwaj was recently detained by Delhi Police and produced before a court in Delhi.
