China has set stringent preconditions for upcoming AI discussions with the United States, insisting that Washington must first ensure its domestic developers adhere to comparable safety, auditing, and disclosure standards. The directive was published on Yuyuantantian, a social media platform believed to embody official Beijing policy, and drew criticism from Chinese commentators targeting US AI firm Anthropic for its perceived misconduct.

Bloomberg reported that the Chinese commentary emphasized the necessity for both nations to collectively define the line between genuine national security threats and routine market competition. The dialogue between Chinese and American representatives on AI is anticipated to occur prior to Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to the US on September 24 for a summit with US President Donald Trump.

While the precise timing of these negotiations remains undisclosed, Chinese authorities sought additional details about the agenda last month.

State media analysis highlighted growing tension between the world's two largest economies, with particular focus on Anthropic's flagship AI model, Claude. A commentary titled "Anthropic Has Contracted the American Disease" alleged that American AI systems have veered off course, accusing US authorities of failing to enforce stringent security boundaries.

The piece argued that bilateral negotiations cannot proceed as mere technical talks, as Washington seeks to impose its corporate guardrails as global standards, utilizing technology controls to impede China's digital progress and compel compliance with rules dictated by American corporations.
