Hong Jing Lian, a 60-year-old car-painter who has operated his shop there since 1997, suffered extensive damage as everything within his shop was destroyed. The fire was reported to have ignited at approximately 1am, believed to have originated from a neighboring premises before spreading rapidly due to the presence of numerous flammable items.
Hong estimated his losses to be around RM1 million, comprising three vehicles sent for painting - a Suzuki Swift, a Mercedes-Benz C-Class and a BMW. Closed-circuit television footage suggested that his shop was unaffected until around 12.59am, after which the fire broke out. Hong was alerted to the fire by friends, who called him and prompted his swift response to the scene from his home in Farlim.
