CAF CL prelims: The game is played on the pitch – TP Mazembe chief ahead of Medeama clash

Chief Jantis Mutombo of TP Mazembe has stated that the Congolese giants are well-prepared for their upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary-round first-leg match against Ghanaian champions Medeama SC. The Baba Boys will commence their 2026/27 CAF Champions League journey away from home on Sunday, when they face Medeama at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa.

Mutombo assured that despite the long journey from Accra to Tarkwa, the team arrived in good spirits and has been focusing on the crucial encounter. Although TP Mazembe has previously faced Medeama, Mutombo believes that this is a different challenge, owing to the changes in the Mauve and Yellow squad. The Ghanaian champions, as the current Premier League winners, are expected to have strong home support at the TNA Stadium.

However, TP Mazembe remains unfazed by the atmosphere, drawing upon their experience of playing in challenging African venues, such as Esperance, Zamalek, and Ahly. The Congolese side will rely on their continental experience when they face their opponents, while Medeama aims to set the tone for the continental action this weekend, having won the 26/27 Champion of Champions against Nations FC.

Both teams are seeking an advantage in the first leg of the preliminary round to determine the outcome of the return fixture in Lubumbashi a week later.
