Bulldozer action on Saharanpur mosque in UP, Samajwadi Party MP claims house arrest

A mosque located on the grounds of the Saharanpur Collectorate Office in Uttar Pradesh was demolished on Saturday morning, following a court ruling that deemed it an illegal structure built on government land. A large police force was present during the demolition, which came after a September 4 ruling by the District Judge's court dismissed an appeal by the mosque management committee.

The Samajwadi Party MP from the area, Iqra Hasan, claimed she was placed under house arrest at her residence to prevent her from traveling to Saharanpur to address the issue. The mosque, reportedly 150 years old, was declared illegal in July and given a 30-day eviction deadline. The court had also fined the illegal occupants Rs 6.41 crore for the unauthorized occupation of the 315-square-meter parcel of government land.
