Adun PAS tak semak fakta, DAP sudah lama persoal DNAA Zahid, kata Ramkarpal

DAP chairman Ramkarpal Singh has accused PAS lawmaker Mardhiyyah Johari of being hypocritical for calling for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to re-examine Zahid Hamidi's decision to drop 47 charges against him. This comes after Mardhiyyah criticized DAP's support for Umno to form a federal government after the 2022 general election.

Ramkarpal, a DAP MP from Bukit Gelugor, stated that Mardhiyyah's statement clearly shows she does not understand DAP's position regarding Zahid. On September 4, 2023, the High Court allowed Zahid to be acquitted without bail following a petition by his accusers. Loke Siew Fook, Deputy Secretary-General of DAP, emphasized that DAP always upholds the separation of powers between the judiciary, executive, and legislative branches, and ensures no executive interference in any court case, for the public interest.

As the chairman of DAP's Legal Affairs Bureau, Ramkarpal said the party is also demanding the AGC explain why it decided not to continue proceedings against Zahid, as stated in a statement on January 7. On January 8, Ramkarpal questioned the strength of the High Court's decision regarding Zahid, noting that the High Court's prima facie finding was not strong, based on the evidence presented by the accusers themselves.

Emphasizing that DAP's concerns about the DNAA given to Zahid are not new, Ramkarpal stated that DAP will continue to question the NPA's decision in the Zahid case, as it clearly does not make sense, especially given the High Court's prima facie finding in favor of Zahid. The question that should be raised now is whether PAS will take the same action or remain silent, particularly as Umno and PAS appear to be increasingly close relationship.
