Yang Ming and Hanwha Ocean Sign Contract for Six New 13,000 TEU Class LNG Dual-Fuel Container Vessels

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation and Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd have finalized a contract for the construction of six 13,000 TEU class LNG dual-fuel container vessels. The agreement was signed by Yang Ming's Chairman, Dr. Chuck Tsai, and Hanwha Ocean's CEO, Mr. Charles Kim. The vessels are set to be delivered between 2028 and 2029 and will bolster Yang Ming's existing fleet of over 10,000 TEU ships.

These new vessels will enhance Yang Ming's global fleet deployment, bolster its competitiveness, increase the use of low-carbon vessels, and bolster its green credentials. Each vessel will have a capacity of up to 13,650 TEU, with LNG dual-fuel propulsion, ammonia fuel readiness, Type B LNG fuel tanks, and various energy-saving technologies.

The vessels will also incorporate smart ship technologies and cybersecurity protection features to improve operational efficiency, safety, and reliability. The fleet expansion is part of Yang Ming's strategy to adapt to the evolving global supply chain landscape and meet stringent regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. By 2030, Yang Ming plans to commission a total of 24 new vessels, including 18 LNG dual-fuel ships, six 8,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready ships, and five 15,500 TEU and seven 16,000 TEU vessels.
