Wike never hid support for Tinubu, says aide

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has denied claims that he betrayed his political position by endorsing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. His media aide, Lere Olayinka, clarified that Wike had never concealed his support for Tinubu and had declared his position even before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presented its presidential candidate, Professor Sunday Oloruntuyi.

Olayinka stated that the term "treacherous" used to describe Wike was inappropriate, as it implies someone acting against someone behind their back while pretending to be their friend. He emphasized that Wike had been open about his political backing for Tinubu, stating, "The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has never hidden his position.

He said it even before PDP presented Professor Sandy Onor as candidate, that he was going to support President Tinubu in 2027. He did not hide it, and up till now, he has not hidden it. He has been saying it."
