Man jailed, caned for driving under influence of etomidate while making Kpod deliveries

Singapore's Chua Beng Kai Jeremy, 32, was jailed for three years and three months after pleading guilty to trafficking and consuming Kpods, as well as driving against traffic while under the influence of etomidate. He also received two strokes of the cane and a five-year driving ban. Deputy Public Prosecutor Darren Ang sought a harsher sentence, citing the dangers of etomidate-related driving and Chua's second offence occurring while on bail for the first.

Chua's lawyer argued that he was introduced to Kpods under difficult circumstances and used them to cope with stress. Chua was arrested after a second traffic incident in October 2025, where he was found driving against the flow of traffic while under the influence of etomidate. He had collected and delivered Kpods for his supplier, using the income to repay a debt and alleviate financial stress.
