Wellington football blanks Westwood in clash of unbeaten teams

In a clash of unbeaten teams, Wellington High dominated Fort Pierce Westwood Academy 26-0 in a football game on September 3 at Calvin R. Triplett Field at Lawnwood Stadium. Defense was the key to Wellington's victory, with senior Jakeim Ellison recording two interceptions and several other players contributing to a strong defensive effort.

Westwood's offense struggled throughout the game, as they gained only 49 yards in the first half, and were sacked five times, finishing with just 10 yards rushing. The Panthers' offense was shut out for the first time since the final game of last season. Defensively, Westwood's players were terrible up front, missing assignments and blocking assignments, which allowed the Panthers to come in on negative field position.

Despite the struggles, Wellington's offense managed to overcome mistakes with fumbles on a wet field, gaining 145 yards on the ground, with sophomore running back Jay’lan Tyler accounting for most of the ground.
