Wellington football blanks Westwood for first shutout since 2024

In a game held at Calvin R. Triplett Field at Lawnwood Stadium on September 3, Wellington High School's football team managed to secure their first shutout since 2024, defeating the unbeatens Fort Pierce Westwood Academy 26-0. Coach LaDaris Vann, in his second season, emphasized the importance of building strength in the weight room, stating that stacking days in the weight room is essential; however, it takes years to develop a strong program.

Westwood's strong defensive effort, led by senior Jakeim Ellison's two interceptions, kept them even with the Panthers for the first 21 minutes and 36 seconds of the game. Sophomore running back Jay'lan Tyler opened the scoring with a 29-yard run on the first play of the match. The Panthers managed to stay in the game for 21 minutes, primarily through the defense which also included pass breakups by junior Rhys Lewis and a sack by senior Nash McBridge, but in the end, Wellington's defense prevailed, giving them a 26-0 lead.
