Trekkies honor 'Star Trek's' 60th birthday with fan events, special screenings, and a world record Vulcan salute

To celebrate the 60th birthday of the beloved sci-fi franchise, fans around the world are gearing up for a series of events and special screenings. Paramount and its global partners have lined up a myriad of activities, including 4K restorations of the first four Star Trek feature films, showing them alongside the original series episodes that inspired them. Limited-edition Enterprise popcorn buckets and drink cups will be available at participating theaters during these screenings.

Entertainment Tonight will air an ET Vault Unlocked episode featuring archival interviews with Gene Roddenberry and cast members on September 7. The Price Is Right and Let’s Make a Deal will also air special Star Trek-themed episodes on CBS and Paramount+, with appearances by Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck from Stranger Things.

In addition, Nick at Nite will screen a marathon of geeky Star Trek episodes from The Big Bang Theory on the same day. On the international stage, fans in London will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people flashing the Star Trek Vulcan Salute simultaneously at the Science Museum on September 8. Meanwhile, in Hollywood, the Star Trek creator's Walk of Fame star will receive a restored plaque courtesy of the Roddenberry family, the Hollywood Historic Trust, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

The European Space Agency will commemorate the occasion by having astronaut Sophie Adenot display the Captain's Delta badge from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds while aboard the International Space Station on September 8. The festivities culminate with a nod to the franchise's enduring appeal, urging everyone to enjoy another 60 years of Star Trek.
