Terrorism: Stop giving motorcycles as palliatives – Defence Minister tells governors

Defense Minister Gen. Christopher Musa has urged state governors and lawmakers to reconsider giving motorcycles as relief items, warning that these vehicles could eventually be misused by terrorists. During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Musa discussed the Federal Government's fight against terrorism and the obstacles faced by security forces.

He explained that motorcycles provide terrorists with an advantage, as they can navigate rough terrain, move swiftly, and evade security personnel. The minister advised governors not to provide large-capacity motorcycles, as they could be used for rapid travel and quick escape. Instead, smaller-capacity bikes should be given to minimize their potential for misuse.

Musa reiterated his concerns to lawmakers, urging them against distributing motorcycles via constituency projects and other aid programs, as these bikes might eventually fall into the hands of bandits and terrorists. He also revealed that security agencies have discovered illegal markets and motor parks used by terrorists to transport weapons and ammunition, highlighting the need to identify and control these routes.
