Suspect Arrested Over Nine Fraudulent Insurance Claims Linked to Kangundo Road Crash

Detectives from the Insurance Fraud Investigations Unit (IFIU) have arrested Edwin Odhuambo Oduor, a suspect linked to nine fraudulent insurance claims stemming from a road accident on Kangundo Road. The crash occurred on September 8, 2023, involving two motor vehicles. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified Oduor as the mastermind behind the fraudulent claims, alleging that individuals pretended to have sustained injuries in the crash.

The accident involved an insured vehicle and a third-party vehicle. Jubilee Insurance Company alerted the DCI after becoming suspicious of the authenticity of the compensation claims. Investigations by detectives revealed that the supporting documents were allegedly obtained fraudulently from Mama Lucy Hospital and Kayole Police Station.

The documents were used to back claims from different individuals who stated they had been injured in the accident. The investigation aimed to uncover the organization of the claims and the legitimacy of the supporting documents. After completing their inquiry, the detectives referred the case to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which recommended charges of conspiracy and insurance fraud against Oduor.

He was subsequently arrested in the Omega area of Kasarani and is currently awaiting arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts. The DCI continues to investigate individuals and criminal networks involved in staging accidents, falsifying documents, and filing fraudulent insurance claims for unlawful financial gain.
