South Sudanese refugee man killed in Kakuma clash

During a clash between two groups of South Sudanese nationals at the Kakuma refugee camp in Turkana West Sub-County, a 26-year-old man named Mayok Pum Menyin lost his life. The confrontation, which erupted around midnight on Thursday, began as a physical altercation involving members of the Nuer clan armed with crude weapons. The incident started at Burundi Market and soon spread to Kakuma Four Vision School.

Police officers and DCI personnel arrived on the scene and established the cause of the conflict between the two groups. Mayok suffered an open wound on the left side of his chest and was rushed to Clinic Seven. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Two other individuals were also injured in the confrontation; one sustained a deep cut to the back of his head and was treated before being discharged, while the other, aged 22, sustained multiple injuries and remains admitted at Clinic Seven Hospital.

Mayok's body was transferred to Turkana West Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation before a postmortem examination. The police are currently investigating the clash and the circumstances surrounding the death. Meanwhile, a separate incident occurred in Molo Town, Nakuru County, where a 59-year-old man named Peter Gitau was found dead by the roadside.

Gitau, a casual worker, was discovered lying supine and appeared extremely weak and emaciated. Police arrived at the scene following a public report and documented the scene before moving the body to the Molo Sub-County Mortuary for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
