‘Snow’ on Kesas? It was actually soap foam after heavy rain

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — An unexpected sight of what appeared to be snow covering part of the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) yesterday afternoon was actually soap foam caused by heavy rain washing away residue from a spill that occurred over a week ago. The unusual scene stretched approximately 500 metres between Kilometre 30 and 30.5, on the Klang-bound-to-Kuala Lumpur side of the highway.

Police chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah reported that initial investigations revealed the soap residue likely originated from a lorry that had spilled its contents near the Kota Kemuning slip road on August 24, before entering Kesas heading towards Klang. Firefighters responded by spreading sawdust along the affected stretch to clean up the soap residue.

However, heavy rain later in the day caused the remaining soap residue to transform into foam along about 500 metres of the highway. In a statement, Sarudin reported that the highway concessionaire carried out a second round of cleaning, which was completed at 4:58pm. The white-covered stretch caught the attention of motorists on social media, with videos circulating showing a white liquid coating the road surface, along with visible tyre tracks from vehicles that had passed through the area.

Concerns among road users, particularly motorcyclists, arose over reports that the road had become slippery due to the incident.
