PAS does not need manifesto pledge on gambling ban, says Kedah MB

Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor stated that PAS does not need to explicitly mention its opposition to gambling in its election manifesto, as the stance is already a fundamental principle of the party. According to Sanusi, who is also the PAS central election director, this position is clearly outlined in Clause 5 of the PAS Constitution, which emphasizes the party's dedication to Islamic values and laws, including Syariah laws that prohibit gambling establishments and regulate alcohol sales.

He encouraged people to rely on their faith, prayer, and trust in God rather than engaging in gambling as a means of achieving success in life. Sanusi emphasized that PAS' stance on gambling prohibition is firmly rooted in Islamic principles and is not contingent on whether the issue is included in an election manifesto. He addressed a challenge from Perlis Mufti Datuk Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, who called on PAS to include gambling and alcohol-related issues in its manifesto.

Sanusi clarified that the manifesto is essentially a party's offer to voters and not a reiteration of its existing policies or principles, as outlined in the constitution. He noted that people often seek reasons to oppose PAS and will find various justifications, regardless of whether gambling-related matters are included in the manifesto or not.

Regarding the issue of gambling premises, Sanusi mentioned that the state government is still awaiting further developments, including possible legal proceedings if gambling operators seek compensation through the courts. He indicated that they would not hesitate to challenge such actions in court.
