Ordered graphics card worth Rs 1.98 lakh, got ‘1 kg detergent’, man wins Rs 30,000 payout

A district consumer commission in West Bengal has ruled in favor of a customer who ordered a graphics card worth Rs 1.98 lakh, but instead received a packet of detergent powder. The e-commerce platform, seller, and other involved parties were ordered to pay Rs 30,000 to the aggrieved consumer. The complaint was filed after the shopper discovered the incorrect item inside the package and repeatedly contacted the opposite parties to rectify the situation.

Despite several communications, the opposite parties failed to cooperate and subsequently refunded the entire amount of Rs 1.98 lakh and Rs 10 lakh in compensation. However, the commission emphasized that the delay in resolving the issue caused the customer mental anguish and legal expenses. The commission directed the opposite parties to pay Rs 15,000 each as compensation and Rs 15,000 for litigation costs within 30 days.
