One more suspect arrested over New Winneba deadly violence

According to Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, a new suspect has been arrested in connection with the deadly violence that occurred in New Winneba. Mr. Obeng, also known as A-Plus, revealed during a joint Facebook Live address with Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin that the suspect killed a man named Abeiku during the recent clashes between residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom and New Winneba.

The MP disclosed that he assisted the police-led operation that led to the arrest. In his address, A-Plus warned other young people believed to have been involved in the violence, saying, "Accra, we are the caretakers. This should be a lesson to all the boys." He further claimed that he told the suspect that he would catch him, and added, "You see, I came to catch you." The arrest brings the total number of suspects apprehended in connection with the incident to eight.

The violence between the two communities reportedly began when some residents of Gomoa Oguaakrom entered New Winneba on Tuesday, September 1, and attempted to lock up some shops. This action allegedly triggered resistance from New Winneba residents, leading to a confrontation that escalated into gunfire. The clash resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to 17 others.
