Millions of Nigerians trapped in poverty – Gov Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed concern over the vast number of Nigerians still trapped in poverty, unable to enjoy significant improvements in their lives despite their hard work. In a recent newsletter, Makinde highlighted that Nigeria's challenges extend beyond the individuals holding government offices. He stated, "Over the years, we have changed governments, introduced new policies, and promised ourselves new starts.

Yet, for millions of Nigerians, the basic results have stayed mostly the same." The governor emphasized that despite efforts, too many people remain stuck in poverty, with many families working hard yet not seeing tangible improvements in their lives. He also noted that many young Nigerians struggle to find a clear path from education to better opportunities.

Makinde pointed out that insecurity continues to affect the lives of many, and the organizations intended to aid them are not functioning effectively. He concluded by stating that Nigeria's issues are far greater than those of the people in government positions at any given time, and solutions must encompass the flawed systems, rules, and structures perpetuating unhelpful outcomes for the majority.
