Marathon man Zverev goes distance again to reach US Open third round

Top seed Alexander Zverev advanced to the third round of the US Open after a grueling six-set match against Quentin Halys. The German player, who had already endured a five-set opening round match earlier in the week, was forced to play another lengthy battle lasting 4 hours and 33 minutes. Zverev emerged victorious with a final score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-7 (3/7), 6-3.

The 29-year-old, who has spent nearly 10 hours on court in the first two matches, expressed satisfaction with his performance, emphasizing that winning is what matters most. Zverev thanked the fans who stayed in the stadium during the late-night match, noting that the couple of thousand who remained offset the 15,000 who left. Despite facing challenges, Zverev showcased his resilience and composure, especially in the fourth and fifth sets, where he managed to break Halys and secure his place in the next round against Chile's Alejandro Tabilo.
