Lorry driver arrested over crash that killed 12-year-old motorcyclist

SUNGAI PETANI: A 40-year-old lorry driver has been arrested in connection with an accident that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy riding a motorcycle, according to authorities. The victim, Muhammad Ilham Firdaus Mohamad Iruan, succumbed to severe injuries sustained at the scene of the crash that occurred on Jalan Gurun-Jeniang yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan of the Kuala Muda police stated that the suspect was detained to aid with the ongoing investigations. He was subsequently remanded for three days to assist with the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. The maximum penalties for this offense include a jail term ranging from five to 10 years, a fine between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and the revocation of a driving license for up to five years.

In the incident, the young boy was traveling on his motorcycle when he collided with the rear left side of the lorry. The 14-year-old pillion passenger of the motorcycle managed to escape with minor scratches and cuts on his hands and legs. No further details were provided by the source.
