(AP) — Jurors in the Lindsay Clancy trial are grappling with a verdict as they deliberate whether the mother should be held criminally responsible for the 2023 killings of her three young children. Both sides agree that Clancy did commit the crimes, but her attorneys argue she was experiencing postpartum psychosis and inadequate mental healthcare contributed to her actions.

Prosecutors assert she intentionally planned the murders. Over 21 days of testimony, the jury heard from numerous witnesses, including doctors, first responders, relatives, and even Clancy's ex-husband. If convicted, Clancy faces a potential life sentence; if acquitted, she may be released or remain in a mental health facility. The jury's deliberations have been fraught with tension, and on Thursday, Judge William Sullivan denied a request to remove one juror who allegedly would not follow instructions regarding reasonable doubt.

The jury's foreperson reported that a single juror was not following the court's guidelines on reasonable doubt, raising concerns about the potential for a deadlocked verdict. If the jury cannot reach a decision, the judge could declare a mistrial.
