Lands Minister vows to fight galamsey ‘all the way’, targets financiers

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has affirmed his commitment to intensifying the government's battle against illegal mining. He stated that he would rather fight with integrity and face death than compromise his principles in the face of corruption. Mr. Buah emphasized that the government's efforts to curb galamsey were increasingly targeting the influential individuals who finance and sponsor these illicit activities.

"I've said this 1 million times. I will choose to fight with integrity and die rather than be corrupted in this dangerous world that will destroy all of us. And that is the pledge we have for the people," he asserted. The destruction of mining equipment, such as machines and excavators, remains a crucial aspect of the enforcement efforts, but Mr. Buah highlighted that more focus would be placed on identifying and targeting those behind the financing of illegal mining operations.

He noted that these financiers often operate away from the mining sites, necessitating that enforcement agencies pursue them beyond the immediate locations of illegal mining activities.
