Klaveness Dry Bulk completes milestone clinker shipment

In August 2026, Klaveness Dry Bulk successfully completed its first cement clinker shipment in several years. The voyage commenced in Cam Pha, Vietnam, and concluded in Ivory Coast, Africa. This marked a significant milestone in the trade, which is evolving alongside shifting supply chains and port infrastructure. Generally, clinker imports to West Africa were carried out using geared vessels.

However, recent market conditions and reduced steel production in Europe have altered sourcing patterns. Now, clinker is increasingly sourced from Vietnam and South China and transported on larger, gearless Panamax vessels. These vessels can trade positions closer to South America's grain markets, thereby eliminating ballast voyages.

Meanwhile, substantial investments in port infrastructure across West Africa have broadened opportunities for these larger vessels.
