KJ, Shahril persoal pemilihan masa pemimpin BN didakwa

Former Umno leader Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan, the former Umno spokesman, have questioned the selection of jailable charges against certain Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders in recent times. During a recent episode of Keluar Sekejap audio, Khairy stated that while he does not dispute the legal process or any wrongdoing, the implications of the impending prosecution cannot be dismissed. He noted that the strained relationship between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) seems to be the reason behind this move.

BN has signaled that the impending PRU could prompt a shift towards Perikatan Nasional (PN), as seen in the recent events in Negeri Sembilan. Khairy suggested that the response to these charges, including investigations and prosecutions, is a form of retaliation against BN for its growing affinity towards PN.

On August 27th last year, former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob denied charges of failing to declare his assets last year, while MIC Deputy President M Saravanan also asked to be heard regarding allegations of receiving RM1.097 million in bribes during his tenure as a Minister of Human Resources nearly four years ago. The Anti-Corruption Agency (SPRM) has also withheld two Umno-linked politicians from their advocacy concerning their association with Tabung Haji.

Khairy argued that most of the alleged wrongdoing in these cases likely dates back more than a year. Shahril, who was also the former spokesman for Umno, stated that while many can speculate on the selection of charges, their support for BN leaders facing prosecution does not necessarily align with their stance on the issue. He concluded by saying that if the charges were filed during a period of strong support for the unity government, Malaysians would likely be impressed by Putrajaya's firm stance against corruption among the ruling party's leaders.
