Key law enforcement group flips on crypto bill

The National Sheriffs’ Association has reversed its stance and no longer opposes the cryptocurrency legislation, known as the CLARITY Act. This shift in position comes after months of vehement opposition from the law enforcement group. In a letter to lawmakers, the NSA will announce their neutral stance on the bill, allowing the legislative process to continue without further interference.

The decision reflects the group's belief that the most appropriate course of action is to step back and permit the bill to proceed. While other law enforcement organizations have rallied behind the bill, the NSA had previously raised concerns about its potential impact on law enforcement's ability to prosecute illicit financial activities.

This opposition proved problematic for Democrats such as Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, whose support is crucial for advancing the legislation. Despite this development, there remain significant hurdles to overcome, including the challenge of restricting the president's ability to profit from digital assets.
