I will recall 15,000 sacked Abia workers – PDP governorship candidate, Anosike

Kelechi Anosike, the candidate for governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, has pledged to recall 15,000 civil servants who were dismissed or retired early under the current administration if elected in 2027. Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre in Umuahia during the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia State Council monthly congress, Anosike criticized the present administration for failing to prioritize citizens' welfare.

He emphasized that a government that genuinely cares for its people would not unilaterally retire employees before they reach their designated retirement age. Anosike assured the sacked workers that he would restore them to their previous positions. The PDP candidate also criticized Governor Alex Otti's administration for its inadequate utilization of funds from subsidy removal, asserting that the state government should address other pressing needs of the citizens, such as unemployment.

Anosike lamented that the high level of unemployment in Abia State was pushing young people to seek employment opportunities in Lagos and Abuja after completing their education. He promised to tackle this issue through industrialization and other youth-oriented policies. Anosike urged journalists in Abia State to continue asking critical questions about governance, reminding them of their role as the conscience of society, rather than merely serving as megaphones for politicians.
