Hadi urges PAS to defend seats won in previous polls

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has urged his party to defend the seats it won in previous elections and to target swing voters through a focused strategy. In a keynote speech at a PAS muktamar in Kota Bharu, Hadi emphasized the importance of retaining the state and parliamentary seats that PAS secured in the 15th general election, as well as the control and governance in the SG4 states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis.

These states have seen PAS win a significant number of parliamentary and state seats in the 2023 polls, with PAS taking 43 parliamentary seats and dominating the state seat counts in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah. Perlis, where PAS holds nine seats, is also crucial for the party. Hadi stressed that PAS must communicate its achievements to the people and voters to counteract attacks from rival parties.

Additionally, he encouraged PAS to set its sights on states like Pahang, Perak, and Selangor, aiming to strengthen its parliamentary representation and overall performance. In Melaka, which is set to hold a state election soon, PAS currently holds one seat, previously won by Umno before joining PAS. The party has announced plans to contest 16 of Melaka's 28 state seats, including Tanjung Bidara, held by Melaka Barisan Nasional chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Hadi urged the entire PAS machinery to reach out to non-Muslim majorities and secure decisive votes in Muslim-majority areas by showcasing its commitment to the people's interests and good governance.
