Ghana Mining Industry Awards nominations rise by 31.4%

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has seen a 31.4% increase in nominations for the 12th Ghana Mining Industry Awards, with 113 entries received this year compared to 86 in the previous year. The rise in submissions reflects growing interest in the awards and confidence in the platform for recognizing excellence in Ghana’s mining industry.

Categories for the awards include innovation, leadership, safety, sustainability, community impact, and a notable increase in participation in the media category. The increase in media entries is significant, with nine entries received this year compared to an average of three annually in previous years, highlighting the crucial role of journalists in promoting accountability and understanding of the mining industry’s economic, social, and environmental aspects.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, attributes the entry increase to the Chamber's commitment to a rigorous and transparent process for recognizing excellence and encouraging continuous improvement in the sector. The Adjudicating Board has begun assessing the entries based on criteria such as measurable impact, innovation, professional standards, sustainability, and contributions to the mining industry’s advancement.

Following the adjudication, PwC, the awards scheme’s auditors, will conduct an independent validation exercise to ensure the integrity and credibility of the process before the nominees are announced. The Chamber appreciates the submissions and wishes participants success as the assessment and validation processes progress.
