Ghana Mining Industry Awards nominations rise by 31.4%

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has announced a 31.4% increase in nominations for the 12th Ghana Mining Industry Awards, with 113 entries received compared to the 86 submitted in the previous year. The surge in submissions indicates growing confidence in the awards scheme and recognition of excellence within Ghana's mining industry. Entries were received from a diverse range of participants, including mining companies, service providers, professionals, journalists, and other industry stakeholders.

A particular growth was seen in the media category, with nine entries submitted this year, compared to an average of three in prior years. The Chamber's CEO, Ing. Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, highlighted this increase as a sign of the industry's trust in the awards, which have been administered for the past 12 years. The adjudication process is now underway, with the Adjudicating Board evaluating each entry against strict criteria covering performance, innovation, leadership, safety, sustainability, and community impact.

Following the adjudication, PwC, the scheme's auditors, will conduct an independent validation to ensure the transparency and integrity of the process. The Chamber expressed gratitude towards all participants, looking forward to the announcement of the nominees.
