DeCare’s Maureen Walsh to succeed Colin Hunt as Ibec president

Ibec, the representative body for Irish businesses, has appointed Maureen Walsh as their new president for the period of 2026 - 2027. Walsh succeeds Dr Colin Hunt, who currently holds the position. Walsh made the announcement, expressing her privilege to represent Irish businesses during a time of significant economic change. Before taking on this role, Walsh has held various roles, including as the managing director of DeCare Dental Insurance, which she has led from its inception.

Additionally, she served as a member of the Governing Body of GMIT (Atlantic Technological University) and as the chair of the Mayo Cancer Support Association. Walsh is also a member of the Local Enterprise Evaluations and Appeals Committee. During her appointment, she emphasized the importance of regional development and infrastructure expansion, housing, energy, transport, and digital connectivity.

Walsh also highlighted the need for businesses to embrace artificial intelligence and develop future-focused skills to remain competitive in the face of technological disruption. Ibec CEO Danny McCoy commended Walsh's track record as an entrepreneur and business leader, as well as her commitment to regional enterprise and digital innovation.
