Daily haze advisories to begin in Singapore after first unhealthy PSI reading since 2023

Singapore will introduce daily haze advisories starting Friday evening following an unhealthy air quality reading in the central region, the government announced. The National Environment Agency (NEA) will issue a 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) forecast to assist people in planning outdoor activities and events. This decision follows the 24-hour PSI in central Singapore crossing into the unhealthy range of 101 to 200 at 7 a.m. on Friday, marking the first instance since October 8, 2023.

The reading increased to 105 by 10 a.m. The Haze Task Force agencies have activated their respective action plans and public advisories to ensure health and well-being. NEA advises that health impact depends on individual health status, PSI level, duration, and intensity of outdoor activity. They recommend reducing outdoor activities and physical exertion to minimize the effects of haze exposure.

The public is advised to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Individuals with chronic heart or lung conditions should keep their medication readily available, and vulnerable groups like the elderly, pregnant women, and children should seek medical attention promptly if they experience symptoms or feel unwell. Daily advisories will provide a 24-hour outlook on air quality as authorities continuously monitor the haze situation.
