Colorado man who was free on bond in wife’s alleged killing is jailed after hit-and-run

A Colorado man who had been released on $3 million bond in the alleged killing of his wife was arrested Friday after prosecutors alleged he caused a hit-and-run crash in Denver. Barry Morphew, who was free on bond in his wife Suzanne Morphew's presumed death, was booked into the Boulder County Jail. According to prosecutors, Morphew violated the terms of his bond by traveling outside southern Colorado, except for work and limited circumstances.

He was involved in a hit-and-run crash with two other vehicles while at Denver International Airport on August 28, possibly to pick up his daughter. Morphew pleaded not guilty and faces trial next summer in the death of his wife, whose skeletal remains were found in southern Colorado in 2023. However, charges against him were initially dropped before he was recharged with first-degree murder.

Investigators found no signs of trauma in Suzanne Morphew's remains but allegedly discovered traces of a drug cocktail used to tranquilize wildlife in her bone marrow. Morphew was the only person with authorization to use such chemicals in the area, prosecutors claim.
