Colorado man who was free on bond in wife’s alleged killing is jailed after hit-and-run

Boulder, Colorado (AP) — Barry Morphew, a man previously free on a $3 million bond in his wife's alleged killing, was arrested on Friday following prosecutors' allegations that he was involved in a hit-and-run crash with two other vehicles in Denver.

Morphew, who was booked into the Boulder County Jail, had been set free on bond last year with restrictions on traveling outside his home in southern Colorado, except for work and limited circumstances. Prosecutors allege that Morphew's actions during a trip to Denver International Airport on August 28 breached his bond.

According to a court filing by District Attorney Anne Kelly, Morphew's bond terms prohibited him from traveling away from home for any purpose other than work. The prosecutors' filing states that going to the airport for any reason other than work constitutes a breach of his bond.

Morphew's attorneys have not yet commented on the matter. Morphew has pleaded not guilty to the charges and faces trial next summer for his wife's death. Suzanne Morphew's skeletal remains were discovered off a dirt road in southern Colorado in 2023. Despite charges being dropped, Barry Morphew was later re-arrested in connection with his wife's murder.

Investigations revealed no signs of trauma on Suzanne Morphew's remains, but traces of a drug cocktail used to tranquilize wildlife were found in her bone marrow. Barry Morphew was the only individual in the area with authorization to use these chemicals, as alleged by prosecutors.
