Atletico's Alvarez will return after 'learning experience' - Simeone
Julian Alvarez will return to Atletico Madrid's squad for the La Liga game at Athletic Club despite his failed attempt to leave the club, says manager Diego Simeone.
Julian Alvarez will rejoin Atletico Madrid's squad ahead of their La Liga match against Athletic Club, according to manager Diego Simeone. The 26-year-old striker's brief absence from training due to illness came after he was reportedly told that the club would not sell him to Barcelona. Although Arsenal was the only option for Alvarez to leave Atletico, no deal materialized and he has now been reintegrated into the team's training sessions.
Simeone emphasized that Alvarez will be a part of the squad tomorrow and expects the best from him as he does from his fellow teammates. He compared life's opportunities to a learning experience, hoping that Alvarez will take this as a chance to grow and succeed. Atletico's stance on Alvarez's desire to join Barcelona was clear, and the team actively considered selling him to Arsenal during direct negotiations with the Premier League side.
Since joining Atletico for £81m from Manchester City in 2024, Alvarez has scored 49 goals in 107 games, but has yet to win any trophies in Madrid.
